“Get Out the Vote” Caravan for Hendry and Glades

Posted

From speaking out about the safety of our children and teachers, to encouraging people to vote, awareness campaigns have changed since the pandemic has threatened our health and safety. Activism caravans have become a popular way to spread a message, during these difficult days of staying at home and social distancing in order to try and slow the spread of COVID-19. They consist of local residents who gather, decorate their vehicles with flags and messages - and drive around their neighborhoods, honking horns and dropping off information at arms length.

Several “Get Out the Vote” caravans are in the works for Hendry and Glades counties. The organizers, made up of local moms, small business owners, and other concerned citizens, are currently recruiting volunteers. They plan to pass out information about local candidates who are running for office, dates and times of candidate forums, voter registration information, vote by mail postcards, and updates for felons who want to find out how to make their votes count.

Those who’d like to join a caravan, organize one to be held in their neighborhood, or even for candidates who would like to add their information to the packets, may contact getoutthevotecaravan@gmail.com for details.
