Glades children to learn mental health wellness through dance

Posted

BELLE GLADE — Recent Philanthropy Tank (www.philanthropytank.org) awarded program StudentBodyHealth along with Federation of Families of Florida, Inc. and Healthier Glades will hold a free event to help kids and teens in the Glades with their mental health wellness. “Moving with Soul” will take place in Belle Glade from 4 to 5:50 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 31.

Students and youth volunteers will come together for a dance party to emphasize the need to move around and exercise. The goal is to help the kids understand how exercise can help them with their mental health.

“Moving with Soul” is the second StudentBodyHealth event to take place in the Glades this year. In May, the group held “Soil to Soul,” an outdoor garden event where kids painted flower pots and planted different plants in a therapeutic arts and crafts activity.

StudentBodyHealth’s mission is to boost mental morale and positive health practices for youth by teaching yoga and healthy eating habits. Alexis Bardy, a 12th grader at G-Star School of the Arts in West Palm Beach, started the program as a way to help her peers cope with the COVID-19 quarantine.

StudentBodyHealth is one of seven student-led philanthropy programs awarded during the Year Six Finals Event. Philanthropy Tank helps students expand their philanthropic programs through mentoring and training, giving them the skills and support they need to make a lasting impact in their communities. Mentors include a diverse array of local business and philanthropic leaders. Applications for Year seven are now open.
