Glades Day beats Westminster Academy 41-7

Posted

BELLE GLADE- The Glades Day Gators opened their game against the Westminster Academy Lions with an onsides kick.

They recovered the kick, then proceeded to drive down the field on offense, capping it off with a 3-yard touchdown run by Damian Cunningham.

From that moment on the Gators never took their foot off the gas.

Glades Day dominated the Lions, winning their regular season opener at home 41-7.

Gator quarterback Dylan Wilkins looked in command the entire night on offense. On defense he killed Westminster Academy’s early momentum with a diving interception near his own endzone. Dylan’s scrambling ability was impressive against the Lions. In the third quarter, after completing a 34-yard touchdown pass to Jenorris Wilcher to put the Gators up 33-0, Glades Day attempted a two-point conversion.

The Lions immediately got pressure on Dylan, who flushed back and out of the pocket. With three Lion rushers in pursuit, wide receiver Marvin Curry flashed free in the corner of the endzone. While running at full speed Dylan was able to flip his hips and launch a perfect pass, right on target, to make the two-point conversion.

The play stunned some on the Westminster Academy sideline.

“Really,” asked one astonished player. “No way.”

The Lions got on the board in the fourth quarter. But on the ensuing kickoff Glades Day’s Jyron Hughley answered with a 90-yard touchdown return, sticking a dagger in any momentum the Lions may have had.
