CLEWISTON — Glades Lives Matter, the Clewiston based public advocacy non-profit, today announced the appointment of Lavita Holmes to serve as the organization’s Executive Director and Board Member. Holmes will handle operational and management matters for the non-profit and support the ongoing efforts of the organization.

In announcing the move, GLM President and Founder Janet Taylor said “Lavita is of the Glades – born here, raised here, lives here, works here, serves here and raised a family here. She’s truly a part of the Glades family and we are so proud to have her energy, experience, professionalism and dedication at work for the people of our communities.

Lavita Holmes was born and raised in and around the cane fields of Clewiston. She spent her early career serving the needs of Floridians in the social service profession and for the past 20 years has owned her own business serving residents in Clewiston, Moore Haven and the Glades communities. Holmes founded Project Success which mentored and assisted students in preparation for higher learning and Goal Chasers of Clewiston, a financial literacy organization. She is a native Floridian, firmly rooted in the Glades community, a mother of three and grandmother of seven.

“I have always been committed to improving and empowering communities and I have dedicated my life to serving the families in our Glades communities,” said Holmes. “I live the creed ‘Glades Lives Matter’ every day and am so very honored to take on this position.”

Glades Lives Matter, founded in 2016, serves, supports and advocates for the residents of the historical Glades communities - Clewiston, Belle Glade, Pahokee, South Bay, and Moore Haven. For more information, please follow us on Facebook and Twitter.
