Gove Elementary receives a generous donation

Posted

BELLE GLADE — The week of Feb. 9,  Gove Elementary and two other schools in the Glades were the happy recipients of a generous donation of art kits for students.

Catherine Martinez is a retired Art teacher from Pahokee. She has long been an avid supporter of the arts in our community, especially student artists. Recently Ms. Martinez returned to teaching as a substitute. She realized there was a need for our full time, virtual students to have access to art materials at home. She polled area teachers to find out what was needed. Then, Ms. Martinez purchased enough supplies to serve three schools in our area. She put together the art kits and delivered them to Gove Elementary. Art teacher, Jill Schmidt, pictured with Catherine Martinez and Principal Kim Thomasson will arrange to have parents of virtual students pick up the materials.
