Governor Ron DeSantis announces $1.64 million Infrastructure Award to Central County Water Control District

Posted

HENDRY COUNTY — On Jan. 22, Governor Ron DeSantis announced that nearly $100 million has been awarded to 24 communities impacted by Hurricane Irma through the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity’s (DEO) Rebuild Florida Infrastructure Repair Program. The program, administered by DEO, helps communities fund infrastructure restoration and improvement projects in communities impacted by disasters. The Rebuild Florida Infrastructure Repair Program provides local governments the opportunity to restore and improve infrastructure in areas damaged by Hurricane Irma.

Working in cooperation with Hendry County, the Central County Water Control District (CCWCD) was able to submit a proposed flood protection project for consideration by the DEO. Approximately $1,635,610 in grant funds has been awarded and earmarked for the CCWCD flood protection project which was developed to improve conveyance and pumping capacity to move stormwater to the reservoir area.

“Florida communities are still recovering from the impacts of Hurricane Irma, and helping them rebuild remains a top priority,” said Governor DeSantis. “This funding will not only help to ensure Hurricane Irma-impacted communities are restored but also help improve their resiliency against future events.”

CCWCD Board of Supervisors Chairperson, Juan Mata, stated “I’m thankful for the support and cooperation we received from Hendry County to access this incredible opportunity for grant funding to continue the CCWCD efforts to maximize flood protection and stormwater management in our community. “We are now looking forward to finalizing our plans to construct this important project for the benefit of the residence of the Montura community” added Mata.
