HENDRY COUNTY — On Wednesday, Oct. 27, the Hendry County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) worked with agencies across the country on the 18th Annual Family Violence Apprehension Detail. This detail was formed to arrest persons with outstanding family violence warrants. Locally, HCSO conducted a total of 227 arrest warrant service attempts, six arrests were made that night and three people, who had outstanding warrants, have been confirmed deceased.
This collaborative effort, commonly known as the SWEEP, helps raise awareness of the problem of family and domestic violence in local communities. It also demonstrates to offenders that they will be held accountable for their violence.
As of Friday, October 29, 2021- 98 Sheriff Offices, Police Departments, Corrections and Probation Departments, U.S. Marshal’s Offices, District Attorney’s Offices and community agencies in 17 states participated in the SWEEP.
In total on Friday:
• 271 law enforcement members participated
• 1,069 warrant service attempts were made
• 200 warrants were served
Did you know that according to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence?
• In the United States, more than 10 million adults experience domestic violence annually.
• If each of these adults experienced only once incidence of violence, an adult in the US would experience violence every three seconds. However, because domestic violence is a pattern, many experience repeated acts of abuse annually, so an incident of abuse happens far more frequently than every three seconds.
• 1 in 4 women and 1 in 10 men experience sexual violence, physical violence and/or stalking by an intimate partner during their lifetime with ‘IPV-related impact’ such as being concerned for their safety, PTSD symptoms, injury, or needing victim services.
Impact
Domestic violence is prevalent in every community, and affects all people regardless of age, socio-economic status, sexual orientation, gender, race, religion, or nationality. Physical violence is often accompanied by emotionally abusive and controlling behavior as part of a much larger, systematic pattern of dominance and control. Domestic violence can result in physical injury, psychological trauma, and even death. The devastating consequences of domestic violence can cross generations and last a lifetime
