Health Care District of Palm Beach County surpasses 100,000 COVID-19 tests

Posted

WEST PALM BEACH — The Health Care District of Palm Beach County’s C.L. Brumback Primary Care Clinics reached a milestone this week, providing over 100,000 COVID-19 tests to the community since March 31 of this year. Demand for testing is increasing ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday, and the Health Care District is asking the public to be patient when calling to schedule appointments and while waiting at the test sites.

At the South County Civic Center in western Delray Beach on Nov. 11, the team with the Scout mobile testing clinic provided nearly 350 COVID-19 tests in one day. The overall testing time at the Health Care District’s seven test sites is averaging between 30 minutes and an hour. Test results are available in three days or less.

“You should be tested if you’re experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, have been in close contact with someone who has tested positive, or plan to travel,” said Belma Andrić, MD, MPH, the Health Care District’s chief medical pfficer and vice president. “It’s important to remember that test results apply only to the time that you were tested. Access to repeated testing is critical, especially during the holidays. Keep in mind that traveling and gathering with people outside of your household can increase your risk of getting or spreading the virus.”

The Health Care District’s Brumback Clinics provide testing at the FITTEAM Ballpark of the Palm Beaches in West Palm Beach, the largest COVID-19 drive-through test site in the county, as well as walk-up testing at the Belle Glade, West Palm Beach, Jupiter and Delray Beach clinics, at the South County Civic Center with the mobile clinic Scout, and in neighborhoods of need with the new mobile health clinic, Hero. Appointments are required at the FITTEAM Ballpark site and help speed up the process at the clinic testing sites. Testing is available to people of all ages, who do not need to have symptoms.

“Over 200 Health Care District team members have been on the front lines since the beginning of the pandemic staffing and supporting our complex testing operations,” said Darcy J. Davis, the Health Care District’s chief executive officer. “They have been compassionate, responsive and dedicated to the needs of our community. I am grateful to each and every employee who made this incredible testing milestone possible. Our health care heroes will continue to respond to those who need us, especially as we face additional demand for our services.”

The Health Care District’s call center will be closed Thursday, Nov. 26, and Friday, Nov. 27, for the Thanksgiving holiday and will resume scheduling appointments on Monday, Nov. 30. All of the Health Care District’s testing sites will be closed Thursday, Nov. 26, for Thanksgiving. The FITTEAM and Belle Glade test sites will resume testing Friday, Nov. 27. The other clinic sites will resume testing on Monday, Nov. 30. The Health Care District appreciates the ongoing support of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, the Florida Department of Emergency Management, Palm Beach County government and the Florida National Guard.

The Brumback Clinics are the medical home for some 50,000 adult and pediatric patients throughout Palm Beach County. This year, the federal Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) named the Brumback Clinics a “Health Center Quality Leader” for top 10% overall performance among all Federally Qualified Health Centers in the country.
