Hendry County Fair and Livestock Show did not disappoint

CLEWISTON - The 2021 Hendry County Fair and Livestock Show was filled with exciting events from pageants to swine shows and steer sales. Belle City Amusements provided the fairway, and it did not disappoint with the many food and craft vendors, rides, and games.

“Even with the pandemic causing so many problems, this year’s fair was wonderful!” said Maryanne Billet, a mom of seven, whose family attends the fair every year. “We try not to miss a single night!”

The Miss Hendry County Pageant was held on the evening of Feb. 13, and the competition was tough. Elyana Leon was crowned the new Miss Hendry County.

In earlier pageants, Aliana Smith earned the title of Jr. Miss Hendry County, and Braelyn Worth won Little Miss Hendry County.

Little Miss Hendry County, Braelyn Worth, also had the 2021 Grand Champion Swine, with the Reserve Grand Champion Swine being shown by Raelynn Paniagua.

“We love watching the livestock shows and seeing the kids get to sell off their steers at the sale,” said Jeff Pompey, long time Clewiston resident and livestock show volunteer. “I remember showing my steer here when I was a kid. It’s six months of intense work, but teaches the kids so much!”

Breana Holcomb’s steer won the 2021 Grand Championship with Riley Sutton’s steer taking the 2021 Reserve Grand Champion title.

Parents and participants were raving about the efforts put forth by this year’s Livestock Show Judge, Sarah Boles.

“She is the best one that has came to our fair so far!! She did an awesome job!! Our kids now feel very encouraged to keep working and making plans for future projects!” said one parent.

“She understood that these are actually kids and she treated them with great respect! Speaking for my kids they felt important and they understood the importance of how agriculture greatly impacts our country with her words in the ring! Thank you Hendry County Fair and Livestock Show Inc. for always searching for the best of our kids!” exclaimed another parent.

The fair was also honored with a visit from Florida Federation of Fairs and Livestock Show’s President Jim Ward and Executive Director Dan West. The federation aims to, “Increase the overall quality of Florida’s Agricultural Fairs, provide the members the support and guidance needed to enlighten our youth and educate the fairgoers on agriculture, trade, entertainment and heritage of Florida.”

The fair ended Sunday, Feb. 14, with Family Day which offered free admission. All who attended the fair inevitably left with big smiles and full bellies, anxiously awaiting next year.
