HENDRY COUNTY — A new board member will take his seat at the Hendry County School Board table as long-time board member Dr. Sally Berg retires.

Paul Samerdyke has lived in LaBelle for 35 years with his wife, Susan. Together, they’ve fostered, adopted, and become legal guardians to children and young adults throughout the years. “Three of our children have graduated from LaBelle High School and one child from Clewiston High School,” said Samerdyke.

He has also provided services as a Hendry County School Psychologist and Counselor. Samerdyke explained, “Thirty-six years serving students in Hendry County, Pre-K through 12th grade, allowed me to recognize the needs of our students and the importance of a good education. A good education affects all areas of life. Our children deserve the best education possible to prepare for the future. Therefore, my goal is to give each child the best opportunity possible to live up to their full potential.”

After 20 years of distinguished service, Dr. Sally Berg attended her last meeting as a Hendry County School Board Member on Tuesday, Oct. 20, where she passed the torch to Paul Samerdyke, her successor.

“It has been my honor and privilege to serve alongside her and I hope her well-deserved retirement is absolutely wonderful,” said Stephanie Busin Chairman of the Hendry County School Board.
