Home Depot helps grieving family celebrate Christmas

Posted

OKEECHOBEE — After his wife passed away in October, Tony Osceola and his children decided they wanted to try to stay positive and go on with life the best they could, but they weren’t sure what to do about Christmas. Osceola said they procrastinated so long that it was almost too late by the time they finally decided to buy a small artificial tree. They went to The Home Depot and found almost all the trees gone. It looked like the only trees left in stock were a few really big ones. One of Osceola’s friends happened to be there, and Osceola told him what was going on with the family and about their plan for Christmas. An employee overheard them and asked what size tree he was looking for, so he told him he was looking for a 3-foot tree. The employee told him there were a few left and showed him where they were. He then told Osceola to check out at the service desk when he was ready to check out.

Osceola picked out a couple of strings of lights and a few more things and went to the service desk.

“The ladies took a little while,” he said. “I was wondering what was going on. It seemed like they were having an issue with the point of sale.” When they were done, they told him he was good to go. Everything was on the house. “Me and the kids were astonished. I about started crying.” He didn’t get their names, because he was in shock, he said. It wasn’t a huge amount of money, but that was not the point. “We were truly blessed and humbled. I really love what they did for us.”
