Immokalee man dies in fiery head-on crash

COLLIER COUNTY – An Immokalee man died Sunday afternoon in a head-on crash on State Road 29.
 
According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) report, the accident occurred at 4:31 p.m. on SR 29, north of Interstate 75.
 
A 58-year-old Naples man was driving a sports utility vehicle south in the northbound lane. A 28-year-old Immokalee man, also driving a sports utility vehicle was traveling north in the northbound lane.
 
The Immokalee man swerved his vehicle to avoid a head-on crash. The Naples man also swerved his vehicle. The left front of the Naples man’s vehicle collided with the right front of the Immokalee man’s vehicle. The Immokalee man’s vehicle became engulfed in flames, the FHP report continues.
 
The Immokalee man died at the scene.
 
The Naples man was critically injured. A 60-year-old female passenger in the Naples man’s vehicle was also critically injured.
 
The crash remains under investigation by FHP.
