Immokalee woman loses life in crash; another sustains serious injuries

LEE COUNTY — On Wednesday, Aug. 25, according to a Florida Highway Patrol press release, a 19-year-old woman from Immokalee lost her life in a vehicle accident in Lee County.

At approximately 1:50 p.m. a sedan driven by a 24-year-old Immokalee man was traveling west on Corkscrew Road, east of Alico Road, approaching a curve. A second vehicle, a pickup truck driven by a 17-year-old male of Immokalee, was traveling east on Corkscrew Road, approaching the curve, east of Alico Road. Also in the pickup truck were three passengers: a 40-year-old woman of San Jacinto, CA, and two 19-year-old women of Immokalee.

The sedan lost control, crossed the center line, steered right and entered the north side grass shoulder. When trying to regain control, it overcorrected and crossed the Corkscrew Road center line. The front of the sedan then collided with the front of the pickup truck in the eastbound lane.

The sedan rotated and came to rest partially on the north side grass shoulder and travel lane. The pickup truck came to rest on the south side, sloped grass shoulder.

The driver of the sedan was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. 

One of the pickup truck’s 19-year-old passengers from Immokalee was pronounced deceased on the scene. The driver of the pickup and the two other passengers were transported to Lee Memorial Hospital. The other 19-year-old passenger of Immokalee was reported to have sustained more serious injuries. The 17-year-old driver of Immokalee and 40-year-old passenger of California sustained minor injuries.

The crash investigation remains ongoing.

Crash investigator is listed as Trooper Garcia and homicide investigator is listed as Cpl. Fleurant.
