Inspirational Women of Hendry County: Kandie Perez

Posted

LABELLE- Trinidad Perez, known as Kandie, is a 10 year cancer survivor, and housewife, who has lived in LaBelle for 54 years, and lives to serve her community.

“I get involved in the community and try to help everyone in any situation,” said Perez. “I’m a very outgoing person, love to help as much as I can.”

“She is truly inspirational, helping my family when we had nothing,” said Jamie Park. “Without her help organizing fundraisers and being there for us to lean on, I don’t know what we would have done. She has helped so many people over the years. She’s a dynamo.”

When asked about what one of her proudest accomplishments was, she said, “I was the organizer of a lineman lunch, that was hosted during hurricane Irma,” she said. “It was a huge success. We fed hundreds of lineman and treemen that day.”

From luncheons, fundraisers, and showing up to give moral and emotional support to anyone in need, Perez is determined to help anyone she can. She stays focused on uplifting and inspiring anyone that is fighting cancer, encouraging them to “stay strong cause they will get through it.”

For years she has organized and led a team for Relay for Life LaBelle named “Stormy Roads”. Her motto, and advice she would give to anyone who is struggling:

“Never give up! Through every storm there is a brighter day. The storm doesn’t last forever, a rainbow will appear soon.”

Many Hendry County residents have said it’s obvious Perez is passionate about helping people. “She makes sure to always stay busy, always reaching out to anyone struggling, and she is definitely known to recruit help along the way,” said Vanessa Stuart. “We- her family and friends- we are always supportive of everything she plans. She keeps us busy, too."

Perez said she loves living in Hendry County, because. “The community all comes together for one another at hardship times.” She added, “It’s a great place to live cause everyone makes it feel like home.”

When asked who has made an impact on her, Perez said the most inspirational person in her life was her mother, Dalia Olivarez.

“She kept me in high spirits, made sure I knew to never give up, and continue to fight,” said Perez. “She would always say “All Is Well” and to just keep going.”

Currently, Perez and her Relay for Life LaBelle Team “Stormy Roads” is holding an Easter fundraiser. For a $25 donation, you can book a visit from Kandie the Easter Bunny. She will come dressed in her bunny costume to visit and take photos. All proceeds raised will go towards Relay For Life Of LaBelle.
