OKEECHOBEE — The Education Foundation of Okeechobee is hosting a Jail and Bail fundraiser on May 19, from 9 a.m. to noon, at Downtown Flagler Park. Jail and Bail offers a unique twist on traditional fundraising by allowing community members to be “arrested” and “jailed” for a good cause. To secure their release, participants must raise bail money through prior fundraising efforts or at the event itself.

This engaging event has garnered the enthusiastic participation of notable local figures, including NFL athlete Evan Neal, Miss Florida, various elected officials and business owners. The involvement of these prominent personalities has elevated the excitement around the fundraiser and contributed to its success. Sheriff Noel E. Stephen and his team at the Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Office have played a crucial role in making this event possible by generously offering their time, resources, and assistance, demonstrating their unwavering commitment to the community and the Education Foundation. “We are overwhelmed by the enthusiasm and support from the Okeechobee community,” said Alaina Barron, Executive Director of the Education Foundation of Okeechobee. “Jail and Bail has become a spirited online competition that brings our community together, all while supporting a great cause.”

The fundraiser has gained incredible momentum, surpassing the initial fundraising goal of $20,000. The campaign has turned into a friendly competition among friends and family, vying to raise the highest bail and earn the title of “Most Wanted Criminal.” The event has gone viral on social media, capturing widespread attention and support from Okeechobee residents. In a further boost of excitement, Wayne Morgan of Morgan’s Furniture is hosting a raffle, with a chance to win a Lazy Boy chair for every $50 contribution towards his bail, while Brad Lundy from Everglades Farm Equipment has pledged to generously match donations for his bail up to $1,000, multiplying the impact of contributions. “We are immensely grateful and humbled by the outpouring of support from the community, and we are confident that we can achieve even more together.” said Eric Kogut, President-Elect of Education Foundation of Okeechobee.

All contributions from the Jail and Bail fundraiser will go directly to the Education Foundation of Okeechobee, supporting their mission to empower the teachers and students of the Okeechobee County School District. This unique and entertaining event promises a day filled with laughter, camaraderie, and the spirit of giving back to the community.
