Jesus’ timing is always perfect!

It’s Wednesday of Holy Week — the most solemn week in the Christian year — and one of the stories we read this week is about Jesus’ friends: Mary, Martha and Lazarus.

Mary and Martha send word to Jesus that their brother Lazarus is very sick, close to death. They believe in Jesus, and they know that if anything could be done to change what is happening, Jesus would be the one to do it. But Jesus has a greater plan, a plan to show the Almighty power of God. Jesus takes his time getting to Lazarus, and Lazarus dies.

As Jesus is approaching the home of his friends, word comes to the women that Jesus is close by. Mary remains at home, waiting for Jesus. But Martha runs toward him and says, “Jesus, where have you been? What took you so long? My brother is dead!” Tension is high. The sisters are devastated and distraught. If only Jesus had arrived sooner… But, as a precursor of what was to come after the death of Jesus Himself, Jesus raises Lazarus from the dead, back to life to be a witness to the power of God!

As we come to the close of another season of Lent, we are reminded yet again that Jesus gave His all so that we might live to bring others to know and love Him. During this final week before the triumphant day of Easter, remember how blessed you are, and be thankful.
