FORT MYERS — Attorney Britton Goodlad Swank, a 1990 graduate of LaBelle High School, was named the 2022 Academy of Florida Elder Law Attorneys (AFELA) Member of the Year. Britton received her bachelor’s degree and law degree from the University of Florida, graduating with high honors.

AFELA was founded in 1993 as a professional association of attorneys dedicated to improving the quality of legal services provided to the elderly. It is the pre-eminent organization for private practice elder law attorneys in Florida, with advanced-level education as its primary focus. Britton was also named the Florida Joint Public Policy Task Force Co-Chair. This task force is a combined effort of AFELA and the Florida Bar’s Elder Law Section, of which Britton is also a member. The Task Force meets weekly to advocate for seniors and individuals with special needs. In addition, its members track and review proposed legislation and agency rules. They also communicate directly with leaders in government, the judiciary, and leaders of state agencies like the Florida Department of Children and Families and the Agency for Health Care Administration. Britton has offices in Fort Myers and Lehigh Acres.
