LaBelle to use Enterprise Fleet program for new vehicles

Posted

LABELLE – The City of LaBelle plans to use an Enterprise Fleet program to replace old city vehicles.

According to information shared at the Nov. 18 LaBelle City Commission meeting, the city vehicles are older and do not have a lot of the new safety features. For example, none of the city vehicles have backup cameras.

The plan calls to phase-in replacing vehicles over three years. This would reduce the maintenance costs of the older vehicles, saving the county about $20,000 a year.

The Hendry County Sheriff’s Office has used an Enterprise program for the past 12 years.

“I don’t have to tell you what that fleet looked like 13 years ago. It was in terrible shape,” said Chief Kevin Nelson. He said the program has worked well for the sheriff’s office.

“Our cars are running at high speed sometimes. Those little cars we used to have were dangerous,” he said. “We have a great working relationship with our local agency in Fort Myers. It’s a good program. We’re sticking with it.”
