OKEECHOBEE- The Okeechobee High School Lady Brahman varsity softball team added two wins to their record ahead of Spring Break.

The Lady Brahmans beat Fort Pierce Central 15-0 on March 8, and defeated Centennial 17-1 on March 9. The 15-0 win over FPC was actually Okeechobee’s second shutout of the year, following their 13-0 win over the Clewiston Lady Tigers on Feb. 22.

In the big win over FPC, OHS sophomore Shaniya Davis and senior Laci Prescott led the team in RBIs with 3 each, followed by junior Rylie Tucker with 2. Senior Morgan Hancock had a homerun, and Tucker, senior Jaclyn Pearce, and junior Lexi Thomas each had a triple.

Tucker had previously played a key role in Okeechobee’s 5-4 comeback victory over Vero Beach on March 1. The Lady Brahmans were trailing for most of the game after Vero Beach went up 2-0 in the top of the second inning. Okeechobee inched closer with a run in the fifth inning, but the Lady Brahmans took the lead in the sixth inning thanks in part to a 3-run RBI double by Tucker.

In the win over Centennial, junior Mallory Collier had an impressive 7 RBIs, including a homerun, double and a triple. The Okeechobee offense racked up 14 hits, with Collier and Prescott leading the team with three hits each.

The Lady Brahmans are coming off a 12-9 record last season which saw them advance to the district championship. Ultimately, Okeechobee fell in that championship to South Fork 3-0. Previously, OHS softball had won district championships in back-to-back seasons, including a 5-4 victory over that same South Fork squad.

The Lady Brahmans will be back home at OHS for a rematch against Fort Pierce Central on April 5.
