Lady Brahmans beat South Fork; repeat as district champions

STUART- The Okeechobee High School Lady Brahman softball team pulled off two road victories and brought a district championship back to the top of the lake for the second time in two seasons

The Lady Brahmans beat Port St. Lucie 16-0 in the district semifinal, and won 5-4 over South Fork in the district championship.

The Okeechobee offense was unstoppable against Port St. Lucie. OHS scored seven runs in the first inning, four runs in the second, one in the third, and three in the fourth.

Jaclyn Pearce hit a line drive double in the fourth that scored two, putting Okeechobee up 15-0 and ending the game early due to a mercy rule. Pearce led the team with three hits and four RBIs.

That dominating win sent the Lady Brahmans to the championship round where they faced a South Fork squad that shut them out 10-0 in one of the first games of the season.

But there would be no shutout of OHS this time.

The Lady Brahmans jumped out to a 3-2 lead by the third inning, with OHS pitcher Laci Prescott able to limit South Fork batters and regularly getting out of jams the Okeechobee defense found themselves in.

South Fork threatened to rally in the seventh inning, down 5-3. They added a run with a homerun by senior Malea Rolle to make it 5-4, but that’s as close as they would get.

With the district championship secured, the Lady Brahmans now advance to the regional quarterfinal where they’ll host the 12-6 Bayside Lady Bears at 7 p.m. on  May 6. The Brahman baseball team, which also won their district championship, will be hosting a regional quarterfinal game of their own at the same time on the OHS baseball field against Eau Gallie.
