BELLE GLADE- The Glades Day Lady Gators scored back-to-back wins last week to increase their record to 5-6.

The Lady Gators varsity softball team defeated Moore Haven 14-8 on March 25 and Boca Raton Christian 16-1 on March 29.

Glades Day jumped out to an early 5-0 lead in the first inning when they hosted Moore Haven in Belle Glade. The Lady Terriers evened things up 5-5 in the second inning, but the Lady Gators were able to put together enough offense in the fifth and sixth innings to dash any hopes of a comeback.

Senior Ruth Lively led the Lady Gators with three hits and two RBIs against Moore Haven. Junior Carolina Rodriguez and freshman Olivia Sanford each had two RBIs as well.

Following that win the Lady Gators traveled to Boca Raton to take on the Boca Raton Christian Lady Blazers. Much like in the game against Moore Haven, the Glades Day offense got on the board early, leading the Lady Blazers 10-1 by the bottom of the second inning. But this time the Lady Gator defense dominated, limiting Boca Raton to that lone run in the first inning.

Freshman pitcher Carla Brown allowed only one hit in four innings pitched, striking out four. It was another freshman, Olivia Sanford, who led the Lady Gators at the plate against the Lady Blazers. Sanford had four RBIs off of three hits, while sophomore Nicki Ruiz had three RBIs off of two hits, and eighth grader Kailey Deaton had two RBIs off of one hit.

Sanford and senior Ruth Lively each had three stolen bases in the game.

Now the Lady Gators are preparing to host an 8-5 LaBelle squad fresh off of back-to-back losses to Clewiston and Gulf Coast. Glades Day and LaBelle take the field at 5:30 p.m. on April 8 in Belle Glade.
