Lady Gators soccer wins back-to-back district championships

BELLE GLADE- The Glades Day School varsity Lady Gators soccer team secured another district championship this season.

The Lady Gators defeated the Trinity Christian Academy Lady Warriors in a 8-0 shutout in the district semifinal on Jan. 30. Then, in the district championship on Feb. 1, Glades day beat Berean Christian 4-3.

GDS seniors Hana Lohmann and Peyton Pelham led the team in scoring during in the district playoffs. Lohmann had five goals and Pelham three in the shutout of Trinity Christian. In the district championship, Lohmann netted three while Pelham scored one.  Senior goalkeeper Nicole Ruiz had five saves in the district championship.

The Lady Gators are now back-to-back district champions after winning last year’s championship as well. In last season’s district semifinal Glades Day shut out Moore Haven 8-0 with Lohmann scoring five of those goals. In the championship game, the girls defeated Lake Worth Christian 2-0 with Lohmann scoring both goals.

The Lady Gators picked up right where they left off at the start of this season, going on  dominant run of back-to-back wins in December, including four shutouts. Glades Day defeated Berean Christian 3-1, Glades Central 6-0, Trinity Christian Academy 8-0, Atlantic Christian 8-0, Moore Haven 9-1, and Sports Leadership and Management 8-0.

In the Moore Haven game, which was the highest scoring of the season so far for Glades Day, Pelham and Lohmann led the team with five and four goals respectively

Next up are the regional playoffs. Last season the girls managed to advance to the regional semifinal where they were defeated by South Florida HEAT out of Fort Lauderdale.
