Lake Okeechobee area schools report COVID-19 cases among students and staff

Public schools around Lake Okeechobee report COVID-19 positive cases for both staff and students. School districts regularly update websites with information on current cases.

In the two week period from Aug. 9 through Aug. 20, 72 students tested positive for COVID-19 including:
• Central Elementary School: 4;
• Everglades Elementary School: 4;
• North Elementary School: 2;
• Okeechobee Achievement Academy: 3;
• Okeechobee Freshman Campus: 8;
• Okeechobee High School: 15;
• Osceola Middle School: 16;
• Seminole Elementary School: 5;
• South Elementary School: 6;
• Yearling Middle School: 9.

In that same two week period, 35 school staff tested positive including:
• Central Elementary: 3;
• District level: 8;
• Everglades Elementary: 1;
• North Elementary 2;
• Okeechobee Achievement Academy: 2;
• Okeechobee Freshman Campus: 1;
• Okeechobee High School: 6;

• Osceola Middle School: 1;
• Seminole Elementary School: 5;
• South Elementary School: 3;
• Yearling Middle School: 3.

Glades County Schools also have a website with information COVID-19.  

As of Aug. 20, Glades County Schools reported positive COVID-19 cases for students at three schools:

• Moore Haven Elementary School: 9;
• Moore Haven Middle High School: 11;
• West Glades School: 11.

For that same date, school staff who tested positive for COVID-19 included:
• Moore Haven Elementary School 4 instruction staff; 4 non-instruction staff;
• Moore Haven Middle High School: 1 instruction staff; 3 non-instructional staff;
• West Glades School: 0 instructional staff; 1 non-instructional staff.

Hendry County Schools website also shows COVID-19 positive cases among teachers and students.

Current student COVID-19 positive counts as of Aug. 20 for Clewiston schools were:
• Central Elementary: 4;
• Eastside Elementary: 0;
• Westside Elementary: 10;
• Clewiston Middle School: 4;
• Clewiston High School 1.

Students excluded from in-person classes due to possible COVID-19 exposure included:

• Central Elementary; 9;
• Eastside Elementary: 1;
• Westside Elementary: 28;
• Clewiston Middle School: 25;
• Clewiston High School: 8.

COVID-19 positive counts for Clewiston school staff were:
• Westside Elementary: 7;
• Clewiston Middle School: 1.

Palm Beach County Schools also have a website with updates on COVID-19 positive cases.

As of Aug. 20, Glades Region Schools with COVID-19 positive students included:
• Belle Glade Elementary: 8;
• Glade View Elementary: 1;
• Gove Elementary: 3;
• Glades Central High School: 5
• Pahokee Middle Senior High: 3
• Rosenwald Elementary: 2.

Glades Region Schools with school staff testing positive for COVID-19 included:
• Gove Elementary: 4;
• Pahokee Elementary: 1.
