LatinFlo holds Tacos y Trokas event in Barron Park

Posted

LABELLE-  There were big rigs and minis, lifted trucks and low riders rolling through Barron Park during LatinFlo’s first ever Tacos y Trokas event last Saturday, March 27. Vehicles had their rims sparkling and their windshields shined up. There was plenty of food, great music, friendly competitions, and even some dancing horses.

“This is an amazing event,” said Chad Bozing. “I love the trucks, the tacos, and I can’t wait to watch the grito contest!”

He went on to explain, “Mexicans do a grito -- it’s a kind of shout. Everyone has a different style.”

It’s really more than a shout,” said his girlfriend, Sanna Guare. “It’s totally an expression of excitement, joy and pride. It’s part of our Latin heritage.”

Truck owners showed off their rides, as people sampled the food, then an announcement came across that there would be horses performing.

“They are amazing, I watch them in the parades, and seeing them up close, here, I’m stunned. Look how they dance!” said Jesus Delgado. “Robert Soto’s group of horses never disappoints!”

The crowds stayed until sunset, watching the truck show. When it was over, many people said they couldn’t wait to attend another one.

“This is exactly what this town needs- some Latin flavor!” said Angie Medina, a long time LaBelle resident. “I love that we had an event to showcase our culture. I hope for many more to come!”
