Letter to the Editor: Playing race card will backfire

I have to respond to your nonsense! In your last two mayoral runs, my wife trusted in you, and spent many hours campaigning for you, and we even made one financial contribution to your campaign.

Letter to the Editor: Playing race card will backfire

Dear Mayor Babb:

I did not send a comment for the last few meetings, and did not intend to for this meeting, but your recent Facebook posts changed my mind (“Babb vows to countersue recall effort organizers,” Lakeokeechobeenews.com, posted Oct. 22). Several other citizens and I are petitioning for the recall of you, Vice Mayor Murvin and Commissioner Everett. I am not on Facebook or any other social media, but several people called to inform me that you have plans to sue me because of the petition. Then I read your post in the newspaper, which confirmed what I had been told.

I have to respond to your nonsense! In your last two mayoral runs, my wife trusted in you, and spent many hours campaigning for you, and we even made one financial contribution to your campaign. Now I hear that you think skin color is the reason for my opposition. You know better than that, but you play your stupid race card anyway! I am against all three of you simply because you refuse to govern responsibly. By the way, we have petitions available for signing, for any registered voters that live in Pahokee.

Over the past five years, the city manager has stolen almost $6,000 in more than a dozen individual transactions. That is an average of more than $300 per transaction. If he had corrected his mistake after the first transaction, it probably would not have been a big deal, but he allowed his pattern of poor judgment to go on for years. When his many thefts and several accounts of misspending were brought to light by three (Palm Beach County Inspector General (IG) reports), two commissioners voted to fire him, but three of you did not! That is the major reason I am in favor of your recall.

In the last meeting, one commissioner wanted to put the almost $20,000 of undocumented spending from the last IG report, on tonight’s agenda, but she could not get a second, so the motion died. I personally do not believe that this Commission cares whether Chandler Williamson steals our hard-earned tax money or not. You have been elected to watch over the well being of our city, but you are not doing it!

I know that there are investigations and audits currently going on behind the scenes. Hopefully the attorney general’s office will soon take action. If the city manager is arrested, I suspect that he will start to sing, and I can imagine some of the names that will be in his songs. Mayor, you can cover for him now, but I doubt that he will cover for you then!

A best selling author, Rabbi Jonathan Cahn, has written a new book in which he encourages America to repent and return to God. That would be wonderful advice for all of us; after all, mercy is far greater than justice. The choice is ours!

Thank you for your time, and may God bless Pahokee!
Bobby Colvin
