LABELLE – LaBelle High School (LHS) band students were recognized at the Nov. 16 meeting of the Hendry County School Board.

The LHS Cowboy Band made a clean sweep at the Heartland Marching Band Festival on Nov. 12, taking home all five trophies: Best Winds, Best Auxiliary, Best Percussion, Spirit Award and Leadership Award.

Band students have earned a number of honors. Michael Stuhlman was selected for All-State on saxophone in 2022 and 2023. Ten LHS students were selected for the 2022 Heartland Honor Band. Eight LHS students were selected for 2022 UCF Knights Rising. Eight LHS students were selected for 2022 USF Festival of Winds.

As community service, the band raised $2,700 in October to benefit the music programs in Lee and Charlotte counties that experienced losses due to Hurricane Ian.

In other business at the meeting, Amanda Nelson was elected as chairman of the Hendry County School Board and Dwayne Brown elected vice chairman.

Hendry County School Board members who won the 2022 elections --  Amanda Nelson, Stephanie Busin and Jon Basquin -- were sworn in at the start meeting.
