Libraries offer virtual adventures

The Clewiston and Barron Libraries have been working to adjust to the current conditions surrounding the pandemic, and have been offering some creative virtual services and events such as a virtual craft and chat, storytime, and a kid’s summer program with a variety of activities and topics.

Their 2020 Virtual Summer Program called Imagine Your Story a Page Turner Adventure, is free, and offers special presentations every Monday through Friday throughout the summer.

“It’s full S.T.E.A.M. ahead with Dr. Loboto’s Steam Lab and Movie Magic Show,” announces the Clewiston Library, in partnership with the Barron Library. “We’ll explore the science, technology, engineering, art, and math behind movies and animation while trying to thwart the mad scientist Dr. Loboto and his plan to take over the world.”

On June 22 -25, the featured author will be Teresa Robeson, winner of the 2020 Asian Pacific American Award, for her picture book Queen of Physics. There will also be a guest performer- he is a magician, singer, recycling guru, and PBS star, known as Steve Trash.

“Kids at home will make balloon rockets and early animation devices called Thaumatropes. Older kids will create phenakistoscopes, another type of animation device,” the event announcement explained, “And, with some parental supervision, we’ll attempt to make s’mores in our very own solar ovens.”

For the program, a Facebook group has been created started for easy access to details and updates. The link to the group can be found here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/CLEWISTONandBARRONLIBRARIES/?ref=share They invite you to join their private group to participate. The program has begun and will continue until August 14.
