Local baseball team to represent the State of Florida in World Series

Posted

OKEECHOBEE — Okeechobee’s very own Dixie Youth O-Zone Baseball Team will be representing the state of Florida at the Little League World Series in Laurel, Mississippi next month.

This local 12-U team finished their three-day district tournament - returning home as the undefeated champions, and advancing them to the state tournament held in Sebring earlier this month. After a long five-day battle, these boys earned their title of State Runners-Up and secured their invitation to the World Series!

This will be a seven-day tournament beginning on Aug. 6.

Over the last few weeks you may have seen these purple and gold jersey-clad players hosting carwashes, selling BBQ Lunch tickets, or greeting shoppers at local businesses in an effort to earn money to cover the expenses associated with this once in a lifetime opportunity.

Dixie Youth O-Zone Baseball Team will host a BBQ Lunch in the Main Street Park #3 on Friday, July 30. Pick-up will be held from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. or until they’re sold out. They will be pre-selling tickets July 28, and delivery is available for orders of five or more.

This will be one of the last opportunities for the community to help them with achieving their goal.

If you would like to reach out regarding donations, or have questions about the BBQ, please contact Kimberly Underwood at 863-414-0234.
