Local HeartCorps opportunity will improve rural health

Posted

WEST PALM BEACH — Three individuals in Palm Beach County and one in Martin County will gain on-site public health training while helping improve rural health through the new HeartCorps program from the American Heart Association. Applications are due by Dec. 16 and can be completed at Heart.org/en/volunteer/opportunities/heartcorps.

Twenty-six states are participating in HeartCorps, a new American Heart Association program launched with support from Public Health AmeriCorps. The domestic service opportunity is designed to help meet public health needs in communities that are currently or historically underserved, and give participants experience and training for a career related to public health.

The program is designed for those interested in driving health equity in rural America. One hundred service members are being sought for 2022-23.

Applicants must be 21 years old and able to provide 1700 hours of service, in return for a $25,500 pre-tax living stiped, healthcare benefits, a childcare subsidy, $6,495 educational pre-tax award, 200+ hours of professional development and direct access to job opportunities upon successful completion of the program.

Participants will help launch learning collaboratives for health or community centers, plan and implement local health engagement events, connect health centers with social platforms for referrals and screenings, and more.

Interested individuals must complete the general application for HeartCorps service members or email your resume to HeartCorps@Heart.org by Dec. 16. Be sure to indicate which state(s) you are interested in serving and/or willing to relocate to for this service experience. All accepted applicants must successfully pass a national criminal background check to become HeartCorps service members. For questions, please reach out to HeartCorps@heart.org.
