OKEECHOBEE-- Bridgette Waldau, Okeechobee Mainstreet's Arts and Culture Director, was happy to give an update on the progress of the Cattelman's Square Park this week.   On Tuesday, the park was filled with people, planting trees and shrubs and placing stone benches to give park visitors a place to sit and rest as they stroll the paths enjoying the sculptures.

According to Waldau, the artist is completing the horse and rider, and most of the pieces are done, welded together and ready for patina. He plans to put the patina on all the sculptures at the same time to ensure the colors match. The horse and rider he is working on is the final sculpture and will be completed by the end of the month.

The project was originally estimated to be completed by April, but there were several hold ups. The foundry experienced staff and supply shortages, and COVID-19 caused some issues early on too. the plan now is to have everything completed by the end of May.

Mark Brandel Construction is heading the infrastructure part and many of the sub-contractors are working in-kind, including the city, said Waldau.
