Man arrested for allegedly firing into an occupied vehicle

Man arrested for allegedly firing into an occupied vehicle

CLEWISTON — On Monday, Jan. 11, at approximately 12:33 a.m., Hendry County deputies responded to a caller reporting a shooting in the Twin Lakes area of Clewiston. Upon their arrival they learned the victim’s vehicle had sustained several bullet holes from gunfire.

When detectives with the General Crimes and Major Crimes Unit responded to the scene it was learned through the investigation that the shooting occurred at the intersection of Twin Lakes Drive and Davidson Road. It was further learned that the shooting stemmed from an earlier incident that occurred in Lee County.

Detectives learned that 28-year-old Samantha Lucio along with 25-year-old Manuel Enrique Ortiz responded to the Twin Lake area in search of another subject. They saw the victim sitting in his vehicle at which time Ortiz threatened to shoot up his vehicle if they found him riding with the victim. It was later in the evening the victim left his residence and again passed Ortiz, it was at this time the victim saw Ortiz point a gun at him and began firing into the victim’s vehicle.

Detectives with the Major Crimes Unit secured an arrest warrant and placed Ortiz under arrest without incident at approximately 2:20 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 14, on charges of attempted homicide, shooting a deadly missile into a Vehicle, use of a firearm during the commission of a felony. Ortiz is currently being held in the Hendry County Jail on a $250,000 bond.
