Man charged with sale of drugs near a church

Posted

OKEECHOBEE — A drug transaction was reportedly witnessed near Treasure Island Baptist Church Tuesday, Feb. 23, and Jentry Lane Griffin, 18, was arrested a week later. He was charged with selling and with possession with intent to sell acetaminophen with hydrocodone within 1,000 feet of a place of worship.

A detective from the Okeechobee Narcotics Task Force reportedly saw Griffin walking north on U.S. 441 Southeast, where he met with a man on a bicycle. The two men exchanged something near the church before parting ways.

A second detective parked near the Shell Gas Station asked Griffin if he could speak with him and asked if Griffin had anything illegal on him. Griffin then reportedly handed the first detective 11 white pills imprinted with M367. The pills were identified as acetaminophen with hydrocodone, a schedule II narcotic requiring a prescription.

Griffin’s bond was originally set at $120,000 but reduced to $60,000.
