Man sentenced to 278 days after pleading no contest

Posted

OKEECHOBEE — Gustavo Adolfo Mireles Alvarado was sentenced to 278 days in the county jail followed by two years drug offender probation after pleading no contest to charges of DUI, tampering with evidence, child neglect and grand theft auto.

Alvarado was arrested in September of 2019 after driving 69 mph in a 35 mph zone. He then drove into a crowded parking lot at the Hampton Inn and ran into a vehicle with a person inside. As he exited the vehicle, he tried to dispose of a can of Four Loco by placing it under a neighboring car. Four Loco is an alcoholic beverage.

At the time of his arrest, Alvarado was 20 years old. He had a juvenile male passenger in the front seat. After his arrest, it was learned he did not have permission to drive the vehicle he had just crashed.

Alvarado told officers he had been drinking at Stampede all night and said he did not have a valid license.

The juvenile passenger told officers he asked Alvarado to slow down and when he saw the police officer, he asked Alvarado to stop, but he refused.

Because he has already served 278 days in county jail, Alvarado was released and placed on probation.
