Posted

LABELLE- Current Mayor David Lyons is up for re-election this year. He has served the City of LaBelle for many years, as a Clerk Commissioner from 1988-2013, and as Mayor since 2013.

“Serving the City of LaBelle as commissioner and mayor has been a great experience,” said Lyons. “Being a part of assembling a staff at the city of LaBelle has been the best part.”

If re-elected, Lyons  plans to continue to protect the environment with significant septic to sewer conversions, stormwater and waste water upgrades; remodel and upgrade the Civic Center; remodel the fire station and securing new equipment; continue to resurface the city streets; make improvements to the River Walk area; and continue upkeep on the Historic Hendry House and others.

Why does he hope for re-election? "The city is at a high position of growth not experience for quite some time. I want to see it through to completion of many of these projects,” Lyons explained.

He is focused on septic to sewer conversions and transfer of operations of LaBelle’s water and sewer delivery by means of a private sector company.

Lyons explained. “This will provide us with a state-of-the-art technology through equipment upgrades, employee enhancements and efficient delivery of water and sewer to our customers.”

Lyons is also dedicated to housing and commercial major developing projects, “We continue to operate at a balanced budget with a low and manageable tax rate," he explained.

“My goals for this my final term as your mayor are very simple. Besides getting closure to what already has been started,” he said. “Increase city pride in our homes and property. We have beautiful tree canopied neighborhoods. I want to continue to improve. More walkers and bikers doing what they do safely on our streets and sidewalks.”

“My wife Linda and I have called LaBelle home for more than 40 years. We have raised our family here and have owned and operated Lyons Printing for 38 years. I am a member of the Methodist Church, the Quarterback Club, LaBelle Recreation Board, and the LaBelle Masonic Lodge.” He continued, “It has truly been a privilege to serve as your mayor and I am humbled by the trust and support you have placed in me. As LaBelle faces the opportunities and challenges associated with growth, I believe our mayor needs to have proven track record of leadership to ensure that we do not lose sight of what makes our city so unique.”
