Meet the Firefighter - Lieutenant David Patterson

Posted

Immokalee - David Patterson was born in the Naples hospital and grew up in Immokalee. David’s parents moved to Lehigh when he was 18.

“But I moved back to Immokalee a couple years later,” he said

David went to school in Immokalee. “Unfortunately, I dropped out of school in High School. But I realized the importance of education and went back to get my GED at 21, David said.

David was invited to go and watch a training where firefighters were doing live fire training and he became hooked.

“I began volunteering with Immokalee Fire District almost immediately. Not long after, I was part of a team that went to Homestead/Miami immediately following Hurricane Andrew. I knew this was what I was called to do,” Daivid said with pride.

When asked about his memorable role/experience in being a first responder, David said there are so many it is hard to narrow it down. After 28 years of service there are simply too many to list.

Davids is a Lieutenant/EMT and he really loves “serving this community that I grew up in.”

David has received 3 Phoenix Awards, Heroism Award (1993) and a Service Award (for years served).

“Go after your education. Even in a public safety career, the more certifications, degrees and licenses you have, the better you will be at this job. Never stop learning,” David had to say to any young person looking to get into a public safety career.
