Teens accused of burglary

Posted

OKEECHOBEE — A 14-year-old boy was one of two arrested and charged with two counts burglary, criminal mischief and grand theft this week. Norman Adams, 14 and Micah Babin, 18 were arrested May 6 by Okeechobee City Police Officer Ramon Liberato at approximately 4:45 p.m.

Liberato was dispatched to Sunshine Vape and Coffee earlier that day in reference to the burglary. The owner of the store told Liberato one of his employees had found the back door latch broken when she arrived. When she entered, she found the cash register had been accessed, and several items were missing from the store.

Surveillance video was provided by the store, and Liberato identified Babin as one of the subjects on the video. Babin was located in the 200 block of Southwest 11th Avenue, and Adams was with him. The report notes Adams was wearing clothing identical to the clothing seen on the second subject in the video.

According to Liberato’s report, Adams had several items belonging to the store in his pockets. Among the items was a bong which the boy told Liberato his therapist gave him.

In addition to the burglary and grand theft charges, Adams was also charged with possession of burglary tools.

After viewing the video more thoroughly, the store owner realized the duo had actually broken into the store twice within a period of two hours.

Adams was transferred to the custody of the Department of Juvenile Justice.

Babin’s bond was set at $7,500.
