HENDRY COUNTY — A 74-year-old LaBelle man and a 62-year-old LaBelle woman were hospitalized Tuesday, Nov. 30 after being injured in a four-vehicle crash. The accident occurred on State Road 80, west of River Oak Lane, at 6:15 p.m., according to the Florida Highway Patrol report.
According to the FHP report, vehicle 1, a pickup truck driven by a 45-year-old Lehigh Acres man, was traveling east on State Road 80 (Palm Beach Boulevard), west of River Oak Lane.
Vehicle 2, a motorcycle driven by a 74-year-old LaBelle man, was traveling east, ahead of pickup, on State Road 80, west of River Oak Lane. A 62-year-old LaBelle woman was a passenger on the motorcycle.
Vehicle 3, another pickup truck, driven by a 22-year-old LaBelle man, was traveling east on State Road 80, west of River Oak Lane.
Vehicle 4, a sports utility vehicle driven by a 65-year-old LaBelle man, was traveling east, in front of vehicle 2, west of River Oak Lane.
The FHP report explains: The front portion of vehicle 1 collided with the rear portion of the motorcycle (vehicle 2). The motorcycle then collided with the right portion of vehicle 3. The motorcycle driver and passenger were thrown off the motorcycle. Vehicle 3 traveled off the roadway, and came to rest in the grass. Vehicle 1 continued east and the front portion of vehicle 1 collided with the rear portion of vehicle 4.
The 74-year-old motorcyclist was seriously injured. His 62-year-old passenger was critically injured, according to the FHP report. The 45-year-old driver of vehicle 1 received minor injuries. The other drivers were not injured.
NBC News has identified the injured motorclist and passenger as former Hendry County Sheriff Tommy Vaughn and his wife, Dawn.
The crash remains under investigation.
