Muck Tavern offers fine waterfront dining

Posted

PAHOKEE – The Muck Tavern at the Pahokee Marina offers fine dining on the Lake Okeechobee waterfront.

Chef Rob, who runs the Muck Tavern kitchen, is passionate about food and it shows. Chef Rob was born in Pahokee and raised in Belle Glade. He trained at Le Cordon Blue in Atlanta, and worked in Atlanta restaurants for about 10 years. When he got the call that the Muck Tavern needed a chef, he was ready to come home.

The Muck Tavern Restaurant is owned by JPDT, (local football legends Jonathan Mann, Deonte Thompson, Travis Benjamin and Pernell McPhee). Since the Pahokee Marina is on state land, the business owners needed lease approval from the Governor’s Cabinet. They obtained the lease in March 2022 and the restaurant opened for business in October.

Chef Robb said they opened with what he considers a basic menu. He has plans to periodically change the menu to add seasonal specials and to keep it fresh. He wants even frequent diners to find new things to try.

“It’s a family-oriented place,” he said. “We want to please all our customers.”

For appetizers, try salmon bites, gator bites or coconut shrimp.

Popular Tavern signature dishes include Ribeye Steak, Shrimp & Grits, and Lamb Chops.

In the mood for pasta? Try Penne Alfredo or Cajun Linguine.

Or stop by for Sunday brunch to enjoy Chicken & Waffles, French Toast or Biscuits & Gravy.

The menu also includes salads and burgers. In addition to the signature Tavern Burger, there’s a seafood burger and even a veggie burger.

Chef Rob along with the 10 cooks on his kitchen staff hope to make Muck Tavern a destination restaurant that will bring people to the marina. Already they have customers from Palm Beach and Miami.

He hopes the residents  of the Big Lake area will give Muck Tavern a try. “Come dine with us instead of taking that drive to the coast,” said Chef Robb.

The restaurant is open 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for lunch and 4 p.m. and 11 p.m. for dinner six days a week. The Muck Tavern is closed on Wednesdays.
