Music in the Park planned at Highlands Hammock

SEBRING – Highlands Hammock State Park, 5931 Hammock Road in Sebring, will bring back Music in the Park with several concerts planned in 2023.

On Jan. 21, J. P. Soars and the Red Hots will perform. John Paul Soars is an American blues singer, guitarist, songwriter and record producer. A 2009 winner of the International Blues Challenge, Soars has released six albums, including 2019’s collection, “Let Go of the Reins,” which peaked at Number 7 in the Billboard Blues Albums Chart in September 2019. Soars lives in Boca Raton,

On Feb. 4, the concert series will feature Malchi Jaggers. Jaggers, of Delphi, Ind., has been telling heartwarming stories through song since 2019 – invoking nostalgic feelings of historic family ties, railroads and heartland America. His fans love how his music makes them feel hopeful. “I’m drawn to writing about things like family histories and the mysteries of nature. Things that remind us how small we are, and therefore how small our problems are,” he stated.

Packrat’s Smokehouse Concert is planned for March 11. Packrat’s Smokehouse is a national recording artist blues band from New Smyrna Beach. Anthony “Packrat” Thompson started the band in 1989. The band includes a collection of veteran musicians who produce a hybrid form of music that merges Delta and Louisiana wetlands sounds into what they call “Florida swamp blues.”

William Florian will be in concert on April 8. Florian is the former lead singer of the New Christy Minstrels. His concerts feature folk and pop from the 1960s and 1970s.

All concerts are 7 to 9 p.m.

Tickets are $10 cash as the gate or $13 online in advance. Children age 12 and under are free with paid adult admission. Park entry fee is waived after 6 p.m. on concert nights. No pets are allowed.
