As of 7 p.m., Hurricane Nicole was about 20 miles east northeast of Freeport Grand Bahama Island about 100 miles from Florida's east coast.
Nicole has maximum sustained winds of 75 mph and is moving west at 13 mph.
It is predicted to make landfall on the east coast during the night and pass northwest just north of Lake Okeechobee.
Florida officials advise Floridians to hunker down, keep off the roads and stay safe.
Okeechobee County has a curfew from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m.
