Okeechobee County at 54 COVID-19 deaths; Hendry County, 52; Glades County, 11

The Florida Department of Health reported more deaths related to COVID-19 this week.

Around Lake Okeechobee, since testing began in March 2020:
• Okeechobee County has had 54 deaths related to COVID-19 to date and a total of 250 residents hospitalized.
• Glades County has had 11 deaths related to COVID-19 to date and a total of 62 residents hospitalized.
• Hendry County has had 52 deaths related to COVID-19 to date and total of 277 residents hospitalized.

• Palm Beach County has had 1,923 deaths related to COVID-19 to date and 5,104 residents hospitalized.
• Martin County has had 211 deaths related to COVID-19 to date and 555 residents hospitalized.
Okeechobee County ICU beds were at capacity on Jan. 6, but other area hospitals have open ICU beds. According to the Florida Agency of Health Care Administration, as of Jan. 6:
• Glades County had no COVID-19 positive residents hospitalized for COVID-19. Glades County does not have a hospital.
• Hendry County had four COVID-19 positive residents hospitalized. All four ICU beds in the county were open.
• Martin County had 41 COVID0-19 positive residents hospitalized. The county had eight available ICU beds.
• Palm Beach County had 406 residents hospitalized with 116 adult ICU beds and 13 pediatric ICU beds open.
• Okeechobee County had 18 COVID-19 positive residents hospitalized. All eight ICU beds in the county were in use.
