Okeechobee County breaks ground on jail expansion

Posted

OKEECHOBEE -- On Thursday, March 24, Okeechobee County Commissioners hosted a groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate the start of construction on the new Jail Expansion and Renovation Phase 1A project.

Speakers included: Chairman, Terry Burroughs, Commissioner David Hazellief, President of Ajax Builders, Bill Byrne, and Sheriff Noel Stephen.

Phase 1A, of the Jail Expansion, includes the construction of a new Cell Housing Pod, Unit B, along with the construction of a new Central Energy Plant Building, Unit G, with two 140 ton chiller units, new related electrical, and water services for future phases. The new housing pod provides the sheriff’s department an opportunity to expand in the future, and grow with the needs of the community.
