OKEECHOBEE – The Florida Department of Health reported the 26th death in Okeechobee County related to COVID-19 on Sept. 26.
Since testing started, 179 Okeechobee residents and two non-residents who tested positive for COVID-19 have been hospitalized, according to the FDOH. Glades County had 46 residents hospitalized. Hendry County had 190 residents hospitalized.
According to the Florida Agency for Healthcare Administration (AHCA) as of Sept. 26, 14 Okeechobee County residents who tested positive for COVID-19 are currently hospitalized; Hendry County has two COVID-19 positive residents hospitalized. Glades County has no COVID-19 residents hospitalized.
Okeechobee County’s hospital has one ICU bed open (12.5% of capacity), according to the Sept. 19 report. Hendry County’s hospital has four ICU beds open (100% of capacity). Glades County has no COVID-19 does not have a hospital.
Larger hospitals in neighboring counties also have available beds.
As of Sept. 25, Okeechobee County had 26 deaths related to COVID-19 including:

The FDOH does not release the names, dates of death or any other information related to those on the state’s COVID-19 death list. COVID-19 was reported to be the primary cause of deaths for these individuals by the medical examiner.
