Okeechobee Fire Report

• Okeechobee City Fire Department responded to 17 medical/EMS, two motor vehicle and four dispatch and canceled calls between Feb. 15 and Feb. 21.
• Okeechobee County Fire Rescue responded to 119 medical/EMS, eight motor vehicle, two aircraft standby, seven fire related and ten miscellaneous calls last week. Of 99 possible transports, 13 were refused.
• On Feb. 23, OCFR responded to a call regarding a vehicle fire at the Shell Gas Station on State Road 70 West at approximately noon. When they arrived, they founnd a vehicle in the parking lot with the hood open but no sign of a fire. The owner said as she was driving, she saw smoke coming from the front of the vehicle and pulled into the gas station. The crew disconnected her battery and turned the vehicle back over to the owner.

• On Feb. 25, OCFR and OCFD responded to a call regarding a vehicle fire in the 3000 block of Northeast 48th Avenue at approximately 2:30 p.m. When they arrived, they found a utility truck approximately 50% involved in flame surrounded by a small grass fire. They found a fuel fire under the vehicle and used dry chemicals to separate the fuel from the flames. OCFD and the forest service extinguished the grass fire while OCFR worked on the fuel fire.
• On Feb. 25, OCFR responded to a call regarding a vehicle fire in the 3900 block of Southwest 16th Avenue at approximately 4:30 p.m. When they arrived, they found a single vehicle with all occupants out and fire extinguished. Prior to their arrival, a fire extinguisher was used to put out the fire. The driver said he was driving when he noticed smoke and pulled over to investigate.
