Okeechobee Fire Report

• Okeechobee City Fire Department responded to 19 medical/EMS, two fire related, three motor vehicle accidents, one false alarm and three canceled calls between June 14 and June 20.


• Okeechobee County Fire Rescue responded to 109 medical/EMS, nine fire related, 10 motor vehicle accidents, four aircraft standby, eight canceled and six miscellaneous calls last week. Of 97 possible transports, 11 were refused.


• On June 16 at approximately 4 p.m., OCFR responded to a call in the 1200 block of Northwest 160th Street in regards to an outdoor fire. After clearing that site, they witnessed a transformer blow on U.S. 68 and stopped to put out two small grass fires and notified Glades Electric of the problem.


• On June 18 at approximately 6:15 p.m., OCFR responded to a call in the 8800 block of Southeast 59th Drive regarding a mobile home fire. When they arrived, they found all residents outside of the structure. The owner told them laundry baskets were on fire but were removed from the building. After putting the fire out, they entered the structure and found no fire extension. They began clearing smoke and unplugged a freezer damaged by the fire.


• On June 19 at approximately 5 a.m., OCFR responded to a call in the 3600 block of Southeast 132nd Avenue regarding a power line down. When they arrived, they found a power pole with the top broken off and requested the power company to respond to the scene.


• On June 19 at approximately 9 p.m., OCFR responded to a call in the 1700 block of Northwest Eighth Street regarding unauthorized burning. Dispatch advised Raulerson ER had a burn patient and wanted to be sure the fire was contained. Upon arrival, they found the fire smoldering and put it out using a water can.


• On June 19 at approximately 10:15 p.m., OCFR responded to a call in the 4400 block of U.S. 441 North regarding unauthorized burning. When they arrived, they found a large burn pile with a piece of equipment adding more brush to the fire. They told the operator of the equipment the fire needed to be extinguished and advised him of the burn laws.


• On June 20 at approximately 2 a.m., OCFR responded to a call in the 1700 block of Northwest Ninth Avenue in regards to a fire alarm. Upon arrival, they found no signs of a fire. Facilities maintenance arrived, made repairs and secured the building.


• On June 20 at approximately 6:45 a.m., OCFR and OCFD responded to a call in the 900 block of U.S. 441 North regarding a building fire. When they arrived, they found light smoke coming from the commodity barn behind United Feed. They found a smoldering fire in the citrus pellets in the barn. A piece of equipment on the scene was used to remove the smoldering materials. The crew remained on the scene until the manager and employees arrived and took over operations.


• On June 20 at approximately 7:30 p.m., OCFR responded to a call in Buckhead Rodge regarding a brush fire. Dispatch notified them a transformer had blown. When they arrived, they found the power pole on fire. They extinguished the fire and stayed on scene until Glades County Fire Department arrived.
