Pahokee Middle High School wins the Fred E. Rozelle Sportsmanship Award

Posted

PAHOKEE — Pahokee Middle High School is the Class 1A recipient of the Fred E. Rozelle Sportsmanship Award. This prestigious award is named for Florida High School Athletic Association’s (FHSAA) Commissioner Emeritus, Fred E. Rozelle. Mr. Rozelle served as the association’s executive secretary and commissioner from 1980 – 1991. The criteria used for selection of the winners included programs and activities executed within the school and community to encourage sportsmanship; quantity and style of remarkable sportsmanship reports; and source of the nomination. The decision was made by an anonymous selection committee of representatives from the sports community who reviewed all nominations and selected the winners. There was only one winner from each of the seven classifications and one runner up from each of the seven classifications.

The letter from the FHSAA noted that the “team’s dedication and commitment to sportsmanship shines through the student body.” Additionally, it was noted that the success of the team is a direct reflection of the school’s administration and leadership. The FHSAA takes great pride in promoting good sportsmanship through athletics. The student-athletes, fans, and administration were hailed as outstanding examples of what it means to be good sports. The school will receive a commemorative plaque and a check for their accomplishments.
