Philanthropy Tank seeks applicants for unique mentorship program

$15,000 available to local teens who want to make a difference

Posted

PALM BEACH COUNTY — Local teens who have an idea they believe can make a difference in their community have until Oct. 23 to help make that idea a reality.

Philanthropy Tank is currently accepting applications for its sixth class of teenage “changemakers.”

The program challenges, empowers and equips young philanthropists to develop and execute sustainable initiatives and solutions to challenges in their community. Philanthropist-Investors fund student initiatives, investing up to $15,000 in their community projects. Through one-to-one mentoring, philanthropist-investors also fuel students’ desire, helping them execute initiatives while increasing their ability to make meaningful change.

Applicants must be students who are in eighth to 12th grade and live in or attend school in Palm Beach County.

Last year, seven groups were awarded nearly $90,000 for their projects that ranged from supporting the homeless to teaching senior citizens technology, and from financial literacy lessons to promoting voter registration and census participation. To date, Philanthropy Tank has generated nearly $500,000 in grants for more than 65 student entrepreneurs for over 30 projects.
