OKEECHOBEE — Crews were busy Thursday morning restoring power to customers who lost service due to  Hurricane Nicole.

The storm, now downgraded to a Tropical Storm, made landfall just south of Vero Beach at 3 a.m. on Nov. 10.

More than 1,700 Okeechobee County customers were without power early Thursday morning. By 10 a.m., power had been restored to  most of the county with 375 FPL customers  still without service and  32 Glades Electric customers without power.

The storm shifted slightly north of the predicted track, which was lucky for Okeechobee County, according Director of Community Services Denise Whitehead.

She said there are some areas with standing water but the ditches are flowing well and no roads have been closed.

"Water is moving through the ditches and canals the way it is supposed to," she explained.

Okeechobee County Fire Rescue and the Okeechobee County Road Department  were out Thursday assessing damages.

Whitehead said so far it appears structure damage to be minor.
