Prayer …24 hours a day

The Weekly Clothesline

Posted

When I was in seminary, I often wrote prayers directly to God, as if I could put the letter in an envelope, take it to the post office, and send it on its way. Sounds silly, perhaps, but that is indeed the sort of relationship the Lord wants from each and every one of us. He doesn’t just want us to turn to Him when we’re sad or desperate. He wants a 24/7 intimacy with us, but sometimes the world gets in the way. We have so many distractions, so much that keeps us from focusing on God and recognizing the awe we should feel whenever we approach Him in prayer. So it’s important to find a balance between God and the world…where God and the world can co-exist…where we use “prime time” to develop that precious relationship instead of giving God what’s leftover at the end of a busy day. It’s a challenge, but it’s worth it.

Intimacy with God is what we were made for. Perhaps you have thoughts and feelings to uncover that you might share with Jesus. He’s been waiting a long time for such a moment with you. He knows your every thought and waits for you to open your heart to Him. We have an amazing God who wants to be that close to you. He’ll wait for you to share your innermost thoughts…but don’t wait too long. Yesterday is gone, tomorrow is not promised to us, but today… this is the day that the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it!
