Ramps for Veterans makes 18th free ramp

OKEECHOBEE — Wade Hunt, with Ramps for Veterans advertised recently asking if any local veterans needed a ramp built free of charge. He and his crew try to do one ramp per month for a veteran who needs one. This month, the recipient was Art Grooms. His wife, Tabitha said, “Thank you so much for giving him the freedom to leave the house once again. God bless you all that helped.”

When Hunt first began building these ramps, he paid for them out of his own pocket, but it is getting more and more difficult to do that, he said. He finally began asking for donations from others. He has a few people who regularly help with the ramps, including his sons Brandon Brock, Wade Watkins Jr. and Waylon Watkins and his daughter Tara Hunt. In addition, there are others who often join them on various jobs depending on their schedules.

“I just want to say thanks to all those who donated towards the disabled veterans ramp. We had a great turn out. We got to listen to some good Christian music, spend some quality time together with others in our community. We were told next time we’ll have some youths from the Roc’s youth group to help out. Maybe I can get the younger generation to help carry the torch for their community. Thank you Brandon Brock, Adam Mowery Jr., Diana Harrison, Andrew Mowery, Pam Mowery and Alexa Harper for your help,” said Hunt, “and thank you for your service Art Grooms. It’s the least we could do for you sir.”
